Dr Hideto Yoshioka, a Japanese doctor who was keen to provide medical assistance to developing countries, built the Japan Heart Children’s Medical Centre in Kandal province to treat child cancer patients whose parents cannot afford to pay for treatment. The need to build this centre arose when Yoshioka learned that medical services in Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia were insufficient.​
